Myrna Blyth is Senior Vice President, Publishing Director and Editor-in-Chief of Ladies' Home Journal and More, Meredith Corporation. She has been with Ladies' Home Journal since 1981 and, under her direction, More, a lifestyle magazine designed for women over 40, premiered in September 1998 as a bimonthly publication. Under Blyth's stewardship, Ladies' Home Journal has won many awards, including the Clarion Award from Women in Communications, Inc. The magazine was described as one of the "hottest" magazines by Adweek and was the first women's service magazine to be named "Magazine of the Year" by the American Society of Journalists and Authors. In 1992, Blyth won the prestigious Headliner Award from Women in Communications, Inc., and the American Jewish Committee's Publishing Division Human Relations Award. In 1988, she received the Matrix Award from New York Women in Communications, Inc. Featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and other national press, Blyth has also been a frequent guest on radio and television, with several appearances on "CBS This Morning," "NBC Nightly News," "Today," "Good Morning America" and "Entertainment Tonight."

Earlier in her career at Meredith, Blyth was also the publishing director of Metropolitan Home. Prior to Meredith, she was executive editor and vice president of Family Circle. Blyth has been a contributor of short stories and nonfiction to The New Yorker, McCall's, Redbook, Cosmopolitan, and Reader's Digest, as well as authored two novels--both Literary Guild alternate selections. She is a member of the American Society for Magazine Editors (ASME); the Overseas Press Club; New York Women in Communications, Inc. (a past president); and Child Care Action.

 

MICHAEL R. LEVY

Texas Monthly

Michael R. Levy is Founder and Publisher of Texas Monthly, Emmis Communications. Born in Dallas, he is a graduate of St. Mark's School of Texas, the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Texas School of Law. Levy was named St. Mark's 1994 Distinguished Alumnus and serves on the board of directors for St. Mark's. He is also a life member of the University of Texas Ex- Students' Association.

Before founding Texas Monthly in 1973, Levy worked for the Dallas County Sheriff's Office, United Press International, and Philadelphia magazine. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the World Presidents' Organization. Levy serves on the board of visitors for the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and is secretary of the board of directors of Magazine Publishers of America. He served on the committee that oversees the City of Austin Department of Emergency Medical Services, which is generally recognized as one of the finest EMS systems in the country, since the inception of the program in 1976.

In 1984, Levy was selected by Esquire magazine as one of the honorees in the Esquire Register of Outstanding Americans Under Age 40. In 1989, Levy was honored as the recipient of the Susan G. Komen Foundation Award for Excellence in Media. In 1994, Levy received the Austin Board of Realtors Most Worthy Citizen award. In 1996, he was awarded the Planned Parenthood of Dallas and Northeast Texas Katherine Ripley Award for Print Media. And, in 1998, Levy was selected as the first recipient of the Travis County Medical Society's Community Citation for Distinguished Service award. Levy currently serves on the Caritas Community Advisory Board, the Board of Trustees of the Texas State History Museum Foundation, and the Texas Advisory Board of the Children's Defense Fund. In addition, Levy serves on the Board of Directors for KLRU-TV, a member of the Public Broadcasting System. Levy is also on the Public Education Integrity Task Force for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
