MPA – The Association of Magazine Media announced the opening of the Magazine Media Lab in New York City.
A crisp, open and creative space, the Magazine Media Lab (mml) showcases the latest digital mobile devices from major OEMs and provides the opportunity to see content across multiple devices to compare and contrast screen sizes, navigation and analyze different user interface experiences all in one place. The lab serves as a resource for member publishers, associate members and marketers as well as brands and agencies they do business with to convene and brainstorm.
All devices are fully loaded with content from MPA member companies, traditional competitive news brands including WSJ, NPR and ABC News as well as highly regarded utility apps like Flipboard and Pulse. Additional context to the competitive app landscape will be provided by top game apps like Angry Birds and Words with Friends.
A Multitude of Screens
“In talking to members, we realized the vast majority don’t have the space to be able to provide their editorial design and business teams up to the minute access to the latest devices, applications and emerging newsstands,” said Nina Link, President and CEO, MPA. “Further, by platform there are various third party providers that enable distinctly different creative and user experiences for magazine applications,”
“We think it’s important to be able to make this available to not just our member publishers but also for the clients and advertising agencies that recognize the value of our readers and the power of magazine media to communicate their brand benefits and inspire our customers to take action,” said Christopher Kevorkian, Executive Vice President of Digital, MPA.
“Additionally, we see an opportunity to reinforce the fact that magazine publishers are not so much competing with one another for consumer attention and advertising dollars as they are competing with all other forms of content and entertainment available to their customers on mobile devices.”
All in One Place
Located at MPA headquarters, the Magazine Media Lab was created by an MPA resource, K&K Design. The lab was created keeping with the environment in which consumers enjoy and employ magazine media; staying away from the predictable sleek retail environment. The “loungy” feel evokes a consumer element and sets a perfect stage for free flowing creative brainstorming. It’s a comfortable space, away from distractions and the everyday hustle & bustle of the office.
MPA will be holding open houses to showcase the Magazine Media Lab to members, advertisers and their agencies.
